My Excel icon won't open the files - have I lost them? Help!

When I click the icon for excel, I'm told: Please wait while Windows
configures Microsoft Office.......
then.... the feature you are trying to use is on a Cd Rom... and is not
available
Insert the disk
I'm worried if I enter the CD that I'll lose my saved files.
What should I do?

One of my friends is have an exact same problem with an invoice template I
have designed for them. They use the start menu to access excel and it
loaded excel but within 1 minute the software produced the same message as
yours and shut down. I found in their case creating a shortcut on the
desktop seemed to help? (Don't know why?) Either that or prehaps your Office
Excel installation is corrupted or was not selected on the install screen.
If the files have been saved and you can see them in explorer, then just in
case highlight the files and take a copy of them into another directory, and
then let the program close. (That way if the files are deleted at least you
have a copy in another directory). My advice is to uninstall and reinstall
office or at least the Excel Component

Many Thanks

Peter
