glad some of you have found some interesting programmes
there. noticed i forgot
wordweb - dictionary and offers 'simular', 'types of' and
other alternate words.

convert - great for converting metric to imperial gigabytes
to bits and other conversions of measurement.

i do plan on replacing power archiver with something more
recent. i think it gives you the choice when you install it
what file types you want to associate with it. although you
can un-associate by shift right click on files or remove
extentions in the 'folder options' found in the 'tools' menu
list in a explorer window.

total uninstall is most handy for immediate uninstall after
a program does not live up to expectations and for
inspecting what has been installed and where it has been
spread through you registry and hard disk, to clean up after
the programmes uninstaller.

Sortpics isn't either. :-(
Seemed nice enough though

Woops! My bad!. Time to hit pricelessware again. Sortpics is not free
but if you can put up with the ten second countdown at the beginning, no
problem (does this make it Nagware?)I also found an image dup finder a
while back that was freeware. Dipped if I can remember what it was
called. John C. also responded for me to try Total Uninstall. I'll
give that a whirl too.

(snipped)
After TU catalogs your system, you need to browse
to the installation file of the program you're installing and select it.
Once that's done, then the "Next" button becomes enabled.

OK, John C. I'm going to try it again and maybe have more patience this
time.

An "unofficial" update for the latest freeware version is 6.11 :

http://exuberant.web1000.com/archiver.html

- Updates UNZDLL, ZIPDLL, UNRAR, UNBZ2 dlls.
- Updates icons.
- Updates default skin.

Try DupLocater. You'll really like it.

Try IZArc. It's a WinRAR clone, and very sweet. Easy and very flexible
configuration.

It works fine on my XP and 2000. I guess it is one of the wonders of
freeware...
I have to say I mostly use Zip (7-zip right now) and only use the others for
unpacking.

I guess evry one has to pick his own best freeware, and let this newsgroup
be no more butia guide for selecting the right one.

And you had to quote almost 200 lines to add this? Zeesh!

Took the words right out of my mouth. Please, posters, remember to quote
judiciously.

======================================

I had no luck with newer RAR fileage using IZArc. Had to resort to using
sho-nuff WinRar to open some.

Grabbed IZArc. Gave Power Archiver the flick. maybe the fix
you need for RAR trouble is go to RAR's site and download
the latest DLL for windows.
http://www.rarlab.com/rar_add.htm
UnRAR dynamic library for Windows software developers.
http://www.rarlab.com/rar/UnRARDLL.exe
click and install and replace the unrar dll in IZARc folder.
worked for me when i was using Power Archiver.
