My Documents relocating spontaneously

M

Matt

I use TweakUI to relocate my My Document folder from its default
location in "C:\Documents and Settings\Matt\Matts Documents" to
someplace else. Everything works fine, but then a day or two later
something is spontaneously relocating My Documents back to its default
location. No files are actually moved nor is anything deleted and I
can just manually use TweakUI again to reset it where I want it, but
it's annoying. How can I find out what is changing that setting "on
its own" and prevent it from happening?

I'd try it by *not* using TweakUI

just right click and select "move"

I'll give it a try, but it seems unlikely --- they (My Documents and
Desktop) stayed put after relocation by TweakUI for years up until a
few weeks ago. Presumably something I added/changed has caused this
new behavior, but I don't know what. I didn't think I had done much
tweaking recently, no new programs installed, etc.

Nope, I tried it your way last night (right click, drag and move-here)
with the same result --- it worked for a while but they just relocated
on their own(back to the standard default locations) just a few
minutes ago.

Which security programs do you run?

What happens when you select your desired location the usual way:

Right-click My Documents and select Properties. Click Move and navigate
to the desired location. Then OK twice.

Try a right-click > Properties > Move, not dragging anything.

Guess it has nothing to do with TweakUI

no other ideas here
