when I try to open my document folder, it flashes open then it is gone in a
flash. if I open it when I have my browser open it will shut it down. I can
go into it through Explore from the start menu and that works to get to my
files. But that can't be right. Don't know where to go from here. Also the
desk top will go blank then come back up.
Thanks for any help

when you say you open up your docs and then it goes, what happens, do you get
a window up showing whats on your desktop instead???

Looks as if the shell has crashed and then restarted. Event Log may reveal
something.

Click Start, Run and type eventvwr.msc
Select Application entry in the left pane
In the right-pane, look for the Error entry denoted by a Red X

Sort by date and track-down the entry based on what time the error exactly
occurred. Locate and double-click the entry and you'll see more information
in the resulting dialog. Click the copy button at the top and copy the whole
event and paste it to a Notepad document and save it. Post the information
here.

Clear the Event log, and try opening My Documents folder. Then check the log
to see if there are any new events registered.

Could it be that I have delete some programs in the past month and that
might have something to do with it.????

Still there is no clear reason why explorer.exe has crashed. Two things come
to my mind:

1. Disable all the third-party Codecs, and
2. Disable all the third-party shell extensions to see if that fixes the
problem.

Tools to perform the above tasks.

MMCompView v1.10 - View installed Codec and ActiveX filters and enable /
disable them:

ShellExView - Shell Extension Manager For Windows:

Brilliant! Now enable the other shell extensions if you've not done it
already.

See if reinstalling Photoshop elements helps.
