So, what happens when you select a message by clicking on it, then pressing
the Delete key or clicking the Delete button?

Thanks for hte reply. The delete option in the file menu AND the icon are
somehow disabled - they have the watermark washed out look and none of it
works. Not even the manual delete button on my computer will delete an email.

If this were happening to me, the first thing I'd try is the Inbox Repair
Tool (SCANPST). The second thing I'd try is a new mail profile. The third
thing I'd try is a new PST.

Thanks for the ideas, Brian. I don't know if it's Vista or what, but I have
no SCANPST. I find reference to it when I go to the help menu, but the file
itself seems to be absent. Seems everything is starting to malfunction, but
running office diagnostics reveals nothing wrong. Frustrating...

You don't state your Outlook version, but try this: open Windows Explorer
(not Internet Explorer) and in the Address bar, enter

%CommonProgramFiles%\system\MSMAPI\1033

if you have Outlook 2003 and

%ProgramFiles%\Microsoft\Office\Office12

if you have Outlook 2007. Click Go. Do you see it now?

I don't know if I'm just dense, but in the Vista stuff, I cannot find Windows
Explorer either. My Outook is the 2007 version - the only one supposedly
compatible with this cursed vista.

Sure you can. Open My Computer. That's Windows Explorer.

Outlook 2003 is fully compatible with Vista as well.
