My date entries are replaced by pound signs

N

novicexcel

I am new to excel 2003, I have a expense form that I have been using for
years. I enter a date in G-4 and pound signs replace the date. All of
my expense reports back to yr 2000 when using excel 2003 also have
pound signs replacing the date.
Thanks for any
help!

Usually pound signs replace data when the column they are in are not wide enough to show the numbers correctly. Right click on your column heading (G) and choose "column width". And then... kick it up a notch!

Select all the cells on the worksheet by clicking on the top left corne
of the worksheet (just to the left of column A label) and with all th
cells selected move your cursor between any two column letters at th
top of the sheet. When the cursor changes to show two arrows pointin
in opposite directions *<-|->* double click your mouse and all th
columns will be auto-fitted to hold your data. You can do the same fo
individual columns if you don't want to select the all the columns i
the worksheet.

Negative date/time numbers would also do that.
Look at ### at the beginning of Help, index

An easier method of changing the column width is to
-- double click on the the demarcation line between the column letters
to adjust the column width to the data, or to
-- grab and drag the demarcation line between the column letters
for a column width of your choice..

Fill-Handle and Replication [also include mouse operations]
