My cursor has turned into a horizontal bar; how to change back?

I had been experimenting with key combinations trying to get an "m"-dash. I
have no idea what my cursor's behavior will be like with this new "horizontal
bar" look.

I'm using Word 2003.

I tried using Help, asking for "cursor," "cursor setting," and "pointer
setting," and got back unusable tips.

Thanks in advance

Press the Escape key. By the way, you have found the
"destructive cursor", which is activated by pressing
Ctrl+Alt+hyphen. If you click on a menu command while the
destructive cursor is active, you will delete that command from
the menu. You can insert an m-dash by pressing Alt+0151 (that
is, hold down the Alt key, type 0151 from the numeric keypad, and
release the Alt key).

Thanks very much! You answered it all!
