My contacts don't stay updated in Outlook

Whenever I try and amend/update my contacts in Outlook, after a time they
revert back to their original state. Why can't contacts be amended from here
like other applications like the calendar and tasks?

Does the actual contact record change or just one of the views of your
Contacts folder? What version of Outlook are you using?

The record changes, however, this only lasts for a matter of minutes. I think
it's because when Outlook synchronises with my Hotmail contacts, the Hotmail
contacts lists OVERIDES any changes made in Outlook. If I delete a contact in
Outlook, it stays deleted until my Outlook checks this with my Hotmail. If
it's still in my Hotmail contact list, it puts it back in my Outlook. This is
the same for amends/edits. This is the only of my Outlook applications that
does this. One other bit of information that 'may' be of use. I copied the
contents of my original Outlook contacts (on my PC) and put them in my
Hotmail version of Outlook (also on my PC). I then watched as this
synchronised with my Hotmail account and everything 'seemed' to be okay.
However, my contacts was the only application I did this way so I'm
wondering, could this have something to do with it? Thanks for your help.

What method are you using to sync your Hotmail contacts with Outlook? I must
admit I am not very familiar with the process, so I may have to do some more
research.

Paul,

I have had the same issues with updating contact records in Outlook.

From what I have discovered, Hotmail contacts are stored differently and
does not allow for the storage of the same information in Outlook. For
example, in Outlook you can store a contacts middle initial, and can change
the Display as settings for e-mail addresses.

When the contacts are synched the Middle initial shows up in Outlook but
does not show on Hotmail.

As for the display as setting, I've changed them in Outlook, but 5 minutes
later they revert back to how they are stored in Hotmail.

What it boils down to is a compatibility issue. Outlook is very powerful and
is loaded with options that is very limited in Hotmail.

I haven't come up with much on this issue except that the connector is
controlled by MSN, not Outlook...have you tried changing your settings for
the connector in MSN, and/or asking MSN for help (or asking your question in
an MSN mail newsgroup)?
