When I click on My Computer, XP takes several minutes
(animated flashlight) to display the information. This is
occuring on a new Dell 4600 system. I do not experience
this on my 2 year old Sony Vaio. Does anyone know how I
go about repairing this?

This could be due to a partially messed up installation of Roxio Easy CD
Creator.

One symptom: put a CD (with data on it) in a drive. If that causes the delay
in opening "My Computer" to go away, that makes it likely.

It may be repaired by:

but in my case (actually on a Dell Win2k machine), I had to manually expunge
all traces of Easy CD Creator from the registry. (A simple uninstall didn't
get rid of all the bad registry keys.) When I installed a more recent
version of ECDC (than 5.0.1), all was OK again.

Try Google Groups for detailed instructions on completely getting rid of a
messed-up ECDC installation.
