Recently everytime I double click on the "My Comuter"
icon, the system hangs for a minute then the video resets
to a very large display with about 4 colors. An error
message is displayed that windows has recovered from a
device failure and I should reboot. Also the volume icon
does not display in the taskbar, nor is there any sound.
The hardware manager shows the device working properly.
Nothing has changed both HW and SW and I have tested all
hardware and there is nothing wrong hardware wise.

Any ideas, anyone??

No idea on the issue.
Volume icon...do you have "hide inactive icons
" on taskbar enabled? Or maybe it is always hidden? Right
click Start, then click Properties, Taskbar tab, at
bottom of window, does it say hide inactive icons? Click
Customize, check to see what the volume icon says..
always show, hide when inactive, always hide.
