anytime I turn on my computer (dell) running win2000, it
goes to the initial window (where windows logo is
displayed) for approximately one second...then a blue
screen appears saying the following:

STOP: c0000218 <registry file failure>
The registry cannot load the hive (file):
\SystemRoot\System32\Config\DEFAULT
or its log alternate.
It is corrupt, absent, or not writable.

Beginning dump of physical memory
Physical Memory Dump Complete. Contact your system
administrator or technical support group.

Ive tried restarting my computer. but that doesnt help.
my keyboard and mouse have been rendered useless. Can
someone please tell me what to do about this....because I
desperately need to access the files on here...but i cant
do anything. what do i do!!?

Press F8 during the boot phase, then select "Last Known
Good Configuration" or "Safe Mode".
