my computer will not read a word document 1998 on a floppy disk.

I am using microsoft office 2003.My computer will not read a floppy disk with
files created by Word 98.
 
Do not try and open directly from a floppy.
Copy it to your HD and open from there.
The reverse is also true-don't write directly, save it to the HD and copy to the floppy.
Your disk may already be corrupted.
