My Computer target error

On my friend's computer, you click My Documents and an
error pops up about how the folder cant be found. It
says to go into properties and make sure that the target
folder location is correct.

The location is D:\data, I can select it but it wont
allow me to type a new target.

This has become very annoying because most times saving a
new document tries to default to My Documents and then
that error pops up.

Thanks for any help you can give.

Use TweakUI - one of the XP Powertoys from (if you have installed XP
SP1)
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp

If you have not installed SP1, the earlier version can be found at
http://download.microsoft.com/download/whistler/Install/2/WXP/EN-US/TweakUiPowertoySetup.exe

Once installed you will find it in Start - All Programs - Powertoys for
Windows XP

Check in its My Computer - Special folder, select My Documents and see
what it is pointing to.

If he set up the My Documents to point to a specific new folder from his
account, this may be the simple file sharing mechanism preventing that
folder being seen from other accounts
