Recently, when I double click on "my computer" the window
opens and a searching torch appears. Some minutes later
the local drives appear. It used to be almost
instantanoeous, what had happened please and how can I
sort this out???

When you click Start and then click My Computer, or when you double-click My Computer on your Windows desktop, Windows may search (a flashlight may appear) for a long time (for example, 5 minutes) before files appear. Disable the Windows Image Acquisition service. More Information: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;819017
