My Computer opening slow/delayed

Hi!

I have been facing a strange symptom after re-installing my WinXPPro,
opening My Computer will take exactly 2 minutes and 6 seconds! (OK, +-1
second ...)

This same happens upon opening My Computer both from the desktop icon and
from the Windows Explorer folder tree icon, noting that with Explorer opening
My Documents tree is opened rightaway. After got opened all browsing on
Explorer is working like a charm.

I have checked the indexing service, but it's on manual and not active, and
also tested the indexing on and off on the C:\ drive in the Properties, but
still the same. Also the drive speed is tested and cables checked and
everything seems as normal, and the UDMA5 is on for the IDE channel 0 as well
as the write cache on for the drive, which seems all well and 2MB in size.

So, where to check next, any ideas?

One thing I have been thinking, could there be some timeout for some search
on 2 minutes and first then the Explorer opening begins and takes the usual
6+- seconds time?

Best regards,

Hi!

Thanks Ronaldo for your hint, it did work, but ...

I'm not too sure about the real problem point, and thus neither of the real
cure, as there was included in this re-install procedure also the re-install
of a HP All-in-One printer/scanner, which wasn't all successful, and that's
why the scanner may have been escaping from the sight of Explorer and causing
the 2 minutes timeout ...

Anyway, the Kelly's 157/right fix did include the change of the start of the
WIA (Windows Imaging Acquisition) service to Disable (Registry -> stisvc ->
dword -> 4), but the install procedure of the scanner do prefer the Automatic
(dword -> 2). Now after a successful installation of the scanner everything
is working well with both of these values.

For info for SWD, sorry, on this case there were no network drives installed
or involved, so, that wasn't the cause, even could have been ... thanks
anyway.

Best regards,

Pete V.
