I have tried everything i can think of to keep my computer shut off, but
reguardless of what i do it always turns itself back on. Sometiems seconds
after i turn it off, sometimes minutes, in few cases sometimes hours. I have
nortan antivirus, and an adware spyware removal program aswell, they are
obviously not fixing this problem. It is very frustrating as i have been
fighting to try and fix this problem for days now, although its been going on
for quite some time. i went back to the furthest restore point on my computer
and the problem did not go away. I don't know what to do i've tried several
other things to try and fix the probelm aswell and still cant find it.
Running scans in safemode has not helped me either. If anyone has any
suggestions or ideas please let me know

Go into the BIOS setup for your computer and make sure that all of the
"wake on.." options are set to disabled.

Good luck

Well i've tried a shat load of the things that were listed on that help
page...i completely deleted my easy cd creator 5 ....computer still truned
tiself abck on. I tried to locate my APM to either see if i needed to enable
ro disable it.. couldn't figure that one out. Tried to check my BIOS to see
if one of those was messed up..couldn't figure it out. Apparently there is a
driver or two that is incompatible with my system but i cant figure out which
one or how to uninstall it as it said i need to. I tried to upgrade my
drivers but i read this article that said if i upgraded from an Acpi to a
standard H or some jazz like that it would mess up all my drivers and my
computer wont turn back on so now ima a littel paranoid to turn my computer
off. Anyhoo i've tried everything i can some what understand and even thnigs
i have no idea about. I've learned more about my computer in the last week
tehn i have teh entire tiem ive had it. AHH frustration. Thanx so much for
tryingto help me but im still stuck.

Hi,

I haven't followed this thread closely and I don't know whether you have
already tried what I am about to mention, but I had a similar problem a
while back with my Windows 2000 PC, and it turned out that it was a
wake-up setting associated with a new Ethernet card.

If you haven't done this already and you have an Ethernet card
installed, open Control Panel > Network Connections.

Right-click your Ethernet connection(s) and select Properties, then
click Configure and select the Power Management tab.

Uncheck "Allow this device to bring the computer out of standby" if the
option is checked.

Well herb thanx for the advice but the "bring the computer out of standy
mode thingy wasnt checked so it has to be another problem. But thank you so
much for the any the instructions on how to get the point where i could maybe
uncheck it ..that was helpful hahaha. Even though it didnt work...it's awsome
that someone triedto help.

comp's still a P.O.S. ahhhhhh

Don't worry about virus' or malware being the culprit. When your computer is
off
NOTHING is executing.
But modern BIOS' have wake up settings, that when enabled, allow a computer
to be automatically started when activity is detected in certain types of
hardware.

If you have a modem installed an incoming phone call can boot the computer.
If you have an always on broadband internet connect, such as highspeed
cable,
then anytime your isp tries to communicate with your computer, the ethernet
activity
will wake your computer.

Disable the Wake On ... event in your bios.

If i knew how to disable the wake on thingy in my bios i could, but i have
no idea how......and i mean i dont even know how to get to my bios ...... im
so lost and frustrated.

Soon as your computer starts hit the DEL button on the keyboard {this will
get you into the BIOS of most computers}

Then check all of the headings until you find something that says wake up
{location varies depending on the BIOS manufacturer and Version}
