telling that my computer is not accesseble and they might not have the
permission to view it's resources. I don't have a password on my computer .

Yasser,

What operating system do the computers (yours and others) have? Windows XP
Home? Pro? Others? Does everybody need access to everything equally, or are
any files kept secret?

More about file sharing, between all different versions of Windows:

On any XP Pro computer, check to see if Simple File Sharing (Control Panel -
Folder Options - View - Advanced settings) is enabled or disabled. With XP Pro,
you need to have SFS properly set on each computer.

On XP Pro with SFS disabled, check the Local Security Policies (Control Panel -
Administrative Tools). Under Local Policies - Security Options, look at
"Network access: Sharing and security model", and ensure it's set to "Classic -
local users authenticate as themselves".

On XP Pro with SFS disabled, if you set the above Local Security Policy to
"Guest only", enable the Guest account, using Start - Run - "cmd" - type "net
user guest /active:yes" in the command window. If "Classic", setup and use a
common non-Guest account on all computers. Whichever account is used, give it
an identical, non-blank password on all computers.

On XP Home, and on XP Pro with Simple File Sharing enabled, make sure that the
Guest account is enabled, on each computer. Enable Guest, with Start - Run -
"cmd", then type "net user guest /active:yes" in the command window. Ensure
that the password for Guest is blank, with Start - Run - "control
userpasswords2"; select Guest, click Reset Password, click OK without entering a
new password.

On XP Pro, if you're going to use Guest authentication, check your Local
Security Policy (Control Panel - Administrative Tools) - User Rights Assignment,
on the XP Pro computer, and look at "Deny access to this computer from the
network". Make sure Guest is not in the list. Look at "Access this computer
from the network", and make sure that Everyone is in this list.

Do any of the computers have a software firewall (ICF / WF, or third party)? If
so, you need to configure them for file sharing. Firewall configurations are a
very common cause of (network) browser, and file sharing, problems.

this may help. quoted from http://www.ChicagoTech.net
.... is not accessible

Message: "....is not accessible. You may not have permission to use this
network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if
you have access permissions. Network path was not found."

Resolutions:
1) make sure no any firewall blocks the LAN traffic.
2) make sure you have created the same workgroup, and the same username on
w2k/xp for logging on a remote computer.
3) check user's rights.
4) you may want to enable guest account on w2k/xp.
5) if you are using simple file sharing, you may try to disable it and
re-share the drive manually.
6) if it is mixed OS (win98, NT, ME and W2K/XP) network, enable NetBIOS over
TCP/IP.
7) make sure the Computer Browser service is started if all computers are
w2k/xp.
8) stop Computer Browser service on win9x, ME and NT if this is a mixed OS
network.
9) cache credential by using net use \\computername\share /user:username
command (it is better to have the username logon shared computer).
10) if you have tried enabling netbios over tcp/ip but doesn't work, you may
try to load netbeui (loading netbeui may slow your network).
11) Make sure the server service is running.
12) If you can see the share in Network Neighborhood but not access it, this
issue may be resolved by verifying that both the share permissions and the
NTFS partition permissions are correctly configured for individual user or
group access.

Thankx man for your reply

but i still have the problem .. i have Windows XP Pro .. SFS is enabled ..
as it always been (and it was working before).

if u have the time , i can tell u what really happened !

i reinstalled windows .. and after i am done with the installation .. i
found out that the Windows XP Pro gave the name Administrator .. instead of
displaying my name in the Welcome screen or the Start menu . i tried to
change this name .. but i couldn't find the option to change the name like i
always did .. so i created another user account with the Admin authority ..
when i did so , the Adiministrator account disapeared .. and only my account
is visit .. i am happy !!

now , when i enable the screen saver password .. i found out something
strange !!

the Windows did not show me the Welcome screen to type my password !!
instead .. i saw the desktop background only .. and a windows in the middle
of the screen asking me for the password !! it's like i am working on Windows
2000 or something .. i am sure this has something to do with the problem i am
having.

we do not have a network admin at work .. it's a simple workplace .. we do
not have a Domian even .. we are working on a Workgroup system !

please help

thankx man

Yasser,

OK, be patient with me as I try to see what the problem is.

First, you want to get your Welcome screen back? Control Panel - User Accounts
- Change the way users log on or off. Select "Use the Welcome screen".

Now, if you want to enable SFS fine. If you enable SFS on all computers, and
enable the Guest account on all computers, you'll be able to share most files.
But you'll not have administrative access across the network.

If you want administrative access across the network, you'll have to disable
SFS, set Classic authentication for Local Security Policy, and setup and use a
common non-Guest account for network administration (your account?). How this
will work with your having renamed your account, we'll have to find out.
