My Computer icon disappears

How can I prevent the "My Computer" icon on my Windows XP desktop from
randomly disappearing?

Control Panel > Display > Desktop tab > Customize button. Make sure that
"My Computer" is checked and untick the checkbox at the bottom. Scan
your system for malware in addition.
 
Thank you. I think this is how those options were set when the icon
disappeared. I will scan my system and see it that turns up anything.
