I have just built at new gaming system and desided to load windows XP Pro as
the main OS. At first it would not recognize the new SATA drive as a boot
drive so I installed a new PATA drive. The OS installed ok this time but when
it started to boot it froze up at the welcome screen.

Can anyone offer any sugestions???????

Hi KR,

Your motherboard should have come with a driver disk that probably
included SATA drivers. At the beginning of the XP install, there is an
option to load additional drivers (F6 I believe). It is there you would
have loaded that driver.

Probably a driver issue. Can you boot to Safe Mode?

By default, most pcs come with SATA or SATA/RAID controller disabled, one
must set the BIOS for this, usually "advanced chipset",then set SATA as 1st
boot device,or if installing xp,cdrom 1st,SATA 2nd.Also,press for F6 option &
install drivers.
