My Computer gives me the RASPBERRY or Bronx Cheer on start-up.

I use Windows XP Home (with all updates and MSfixes) and since installation
it starts OK but then goes into a period where it won't start most times
but rather starts the start by checking drives and then beeps a couple of
times and flashes green on my CD drives, then gives the "RASPBERRY or Bronx
Cheer" and doesn't do anything more. I restart and reset sometimes only
once, sometimes 10+ times before it starts normally.

I had a problem where I had trouble shutting down which I resolved by the
restoration process, but it doesn't help this current problem.

Computer is free or viruses. I use an Athelon chip on a ECS KT7VTA3
motherboard, have 512 of memory.

I'd sure like to know what causes this and how to fix it.

Hi, Bob. I enjoyed your description of the problem. Actually, from your
description, this has nothing to do with software and Windows. The
sounds are coming from your motherboard to let you know that something
is wrong with the hardware. Beeps and such are audible codes, and the
interpretation of the beep codes depends on your BIOS. Your motherboard
manual should have that information. The system could be overheating,
the processor could be failing, bad memory, a lot of things. Unless you
are skilled in doing hardware diagnosis, your best bet is to take the
computer to a good local repair shop (not a BestBuy or CompUSA type of
store) and have them fix it for you.

If you want more information about doing the hardware troubleshooting
yourself, please repost.

Good luck,

Malke
