"My Computer" functionality runs very slow on my XP system

I use Windows XP Home Edition on my computer. When I click on "My Computer"
the folder containing the drives on my computer takes about a minute to load
up, with a flashlight moving back and forth. Is there a setting I can check
to make sure that this function is running properly. I have more than enough
RAM, so that memory should not be a problem.

Hi,

Click start/run, type msconfig and click ok. Go to the services tab, look
for Windows Image Acquistion (WIA) and uncheck it. Click apply and reboot,
see if this helps.

Details like
How many drives of what kind?
Does this happen EVERY time you click on my computer?
Do you have your drives to spin down when unused for a specified length
of time?
How do you have the 'View' set for the 'My Computer' window?
Is there a similar delay when you click on 'Windows Explorer'?
What have you done to diagnose the problem?
Google search?
Google Groups search?
Microsoft Windows XP support?
would be helpful in diagnosis.

'My Computer', according to you is properly, though slowly. Unless you have
a digital scanner and or camera 'Windows Explorer' and 'Control Panel'
should give you the access you get through 'My Computer'.
