Hi There. Can anybody suggest a fix for the following problem/s I'm having.
Whenever I open "My Computer" folder (by either clicking on My Computer on
the desktop or right clicking on the Start button and exploring My Computer,
it takes about 15 seconds or more for the drives to be displayed. All the
time, the magical torch is sweeping away while my patients run out! This has
been happening for a few weeks now. I also don't seem to be able to any
further Security Updates from Microsoft. I have a geniune copy of Windows XP
Home and all had been working fine up until about a month ago. My wonderful
Norton also has a problem with Live Update not being able to Update..... I
don't have a home network setup so this is a stand-alone machine. When I've
had a look at the Event viewer logs for an idea of whats going on, I noticed
that each time I've clicked on "My Computer", there is an entry in the event
log which says..."The server {A1F4E726-8CF1-11D1-BF92-0060081ED811} did not
register with DCOM within the required timeout.
For more information, see Help and Support Center at
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp." Can anybody help please. I've
seen one recommendation on another site which suggested changing a setting on
Internet Explorer options (disabling the Enable 3rd party browser extentions)
which has not helped.

Hi Jim,

See if this workaround helps.

Long delay before files appear in My Computer in Windows XP:
