My Computer does not recognize Audio E Drive

I have been burning cd's with windows media player for a few months, then suddenly, I was no longer able to because my compaq presario 5000 has decided to start pretending that it no longer has an audio drive at all. Even when I go into My Computer to try to explore the E drive, it just isn't there..... I tried restoring the system to the last checkpoint, but it didn't help..... Can anyone help me???

R.click my computer,properties,device mgr.,expand the tree for the device,
R.click the text,select,uninstall,close-out,shut-off computer.XP will reinstall
at next ststem start.
