I have purchased a brand new DVD CD Writer. For some reason the computer
does not reconize the USB connection when plugged in and hence I cant use the
DVD Writer. I have installed the software that comes with the DVD Writer. For
some strange reason also it reconizes the USB port when I connect my camera
or other devices to the USB port in the computer.

Could somebody please help me how to overcome this problem.

Thanks

Since your camera seems to function using that USB port: Did you read all of the
requirements for the new DVD/CD burner? Is it an older system? Is the USB port USB 1.1,
and perhaps the new drive requires USB 2.0? I do not want to seem condescending, but did
you turn the power switch on the new external drive on? I recently purchased a Sony
external USB/Firewire DVD+R/CDR "weekly special" from Fry's Outpost online for about $70.
The drive came with Nero which costs about what I paid for the drive. Setup was really
easy, which makes me wonder if there is an incompatibility, or if your new drive might be
defective. If there is not an incompatibility, and the drive is not defective, and it
does get power: Have you tried another USB port?
