My column headings somehow changed from letters to numbers...help

The column headings on my spreadsheets somehow changed from letter
designations (A, B, etc.) to number designations (1,2, etc.) How do I fix
this?

In Excel 2003 or earlier, click on Tools | Options | General tab |
uncheck the "R1C1 reference style" box | OK.
