my burner isnt working

everytime i try to burn a cd, the test will work fine but it wont burn onto cd. it says preparing audio data but doesnt do anything, eventually i have to end task. i tried windows media but it gives command error, i downloaded another burning program and it still wont burn. anything i can do short of reformatting comp?

You can try uninstalling the drivers for your CD burner, rebooting and
then reinstalling them.
