I've just had to reinstall Windows XP SP2 after a bad crash & now my
AMD Sempron(tm) 2400MHz CPU is being displayed & operating as an
AMD Athlon(tm) 1000MHz.

I know this may not actually be a Windows XP problem & may be a result
of a bad BIOS reinstall, yes that got reinstalled as well and I can't figure
out the culprit Windows XP or BIOS. Any help would be appreciated.

A few specs...
OS - Windows XP SP2
Award BIOS Type Phoenix - AwardBIOS v6.00PG
Motherboard ID 12/21/2004-nVidia-nForce-6A61BLBIC-00
CPU - AMD Sempron(tm) 2400MHz or AMD Athlon(tm) 1000MHz!!!!!!!

there are some softwares that cannot accurately display this data. Where
are you getting the readings from?

I am getting the readings from My Computer/Properties, also
Everest Home Edition v2.01 & System Spec 2.20 all told me I had
a AMD Sempron(tm) 2400MHz before reinstalling Windows XP & all
now tell me I have a AMD Athlon(tm) 1000MHz.

if your bios/cmos indicate the correct speed, then maybe you need get some
updates from AMD... Also, double check your ram speed if your cmos provides
this info. Sometimes this reading gets set to the low end.

It might help to get the bios date of your version and look for an updated
one....

Sounds like your BIOS settings are incorrect. Most motherboards will allow
you to set the clock speeds to "AUTO", or you can manually set them. My old
Asus motherboard would default to 1Ghz after a "bad" reboot or if a reset
occured during the memory check. Good chance that is what happened with
your BIOS setting, as many boards will kick the speed way down so you can
boot to the bios and change it. They also do that so if you do happen to
overclock your CPU to the point where it will not boot, the BIOS is smart
enough to reset itself to a slower speed.

Good luck!

Nothing wrong - actual speed of a Sempron 2400 is about 1gig the 2400 does
not indicate the processor speed, Initially those figures (also for the
Athlon) referred to comparable performance of a Pentium 2.4 gig and so
forth. Also keep in mind that the Athlon is a step above the Sempron. The
Sempron was the answer to the Celeron.

Yes I believe you're right, the actual speed of the AMD Sempron 2400 is
1.66GHz the 2400 refers to the eqivialent speed of a Pentium processor.

I'm just not sure where in the BIOS I have to make changes to get back
the .66GHz i've lost. Guess I'll just have to experiment.
