AMD Sempron Question

Is an "AMD Sempron 2800+(Palermo,90nm,L2-256KB) the same as a "AMD
Sempron 64 3000+ Palermo" ? I am trying to see what is compatible with
a motheboard that I am looking at on Newegg. On the MotherBoard's site
(Gigabyte), they list the Athlon processors that the board can use as
"Athlon 64" however the 64 is not on the Sempron descriptions.

Do I understand correctly that if I install windows XP, my normal
software will work, and if I install a 64bit version of XP, then some
of my software probably wont work?
Thanks,Roger

I think there's a difference most notable the 64 300 does 64-bit and
probably runs a lot cooler than the 2800.

That's my understanding plus the 64bit XP is still buggy.

A Sempron 64 will work fine, but if your bios has not been updated to
recognize the latest Semprons, it will boot with something like 'unknown AMD
processor 1.8Ghz' instead of displaying the actual processor model number.
The 2800+ is 1.6Ghz 128k cache and the 3000+ is 1.8Ghz 128k cache I believe.
Unless you need the 64 bit capabilities of XP-64 I would stay away. Driver
support is spotty and even though 32 bit software is supposed to run there
are some issues.

Correction, the 2800+ is 1.6Ghz 256k Cache.
