My AMD 64 3400 15X faster than P4 1.5

Hi Folks,

I just got an AMD 64 3400 PC with 1 GB ram.

The speed is stunning compared to a P4 1.5 GHz DELL with very top-of-line
equipment. Examples:

Office XP installed in 1 minute. On P4 1.5 installed in 17 minutes.
It boots 6 X faster than the P4 1.5.

Applications like Reflection X, acrobat, ..etc ran at least 5 x faster.

Some intensive graphics games load 15 times faster. The P4 has NVIDIA 128
MB,
the AMD has 256 MB.

I didn't realize the gain in performance would be exponential. I expected
the
increase to double or maybe 3X at most.

I paid for it 50% of what DELL charges for a machine with similar features.

Along with a nice HP flat screen monitor and HP printer, I got a dream
system ;)

I'm haning upside down with barbed wire tied around my baby toes & I'm
suspended over a bottomless pit. Eight cannibals have tossed me a laptop
computer with wireless lan and ordered me to type this message into the
newsgroup professing my love and undying devotion to AMD or else I'll really
get it! So here's my chance: I don't give a rat's ass about AMD or your
squat sucking computer so go try to impress eight cannibals in the jungle
but you better not smell like coconut lotion or tanning butter or you'll be
hanging over a bottomless pit while they heat up the barbecue.
So There =)

Me typing this in on wireless Toshiba laptop while white boy hanging
down with barbwire around legs above boiling pot not bottomless pit.
Him squeal like small frightened baby pig but me make tasty roasted
Pawanee with tasty roast meat. Him say Intel better , but Ognabee
Tribe know , AMD 64 has power of Tawahbeh, god of lightening inside
chip ---- much faster at installing Win XP and MS office.

you should check if there is some problem with Dell´s hardware
configuration or Bios settings; IMHO the L2 Cpu cache could be
disabled or bugy Bios; this could explain such a big difference ...

Office XP should not have taken 17 minutes to install - something
was badly wrong with the setup of that PC. Doesnt matter how
much money you spend on a PC if you don't learn how to set it up
properly and maintain it.

How much RAM do you have on the P4? The 3400+ is about 3.5x a 1.5GHz P4
not 15X. If you are seeing a 15X speed up then something besides the
processsor is reponsible. It could be as simple as the about of RAM you
have in each machine. If the P4 has an inadequate amount of RAM then it
will spend a lot of time paging. It could also be that the P4's disk isn't
in DMA mode and the A64's is.

It's extremely unlikely that the CPU performance difference
results in more than ~ 30% difference in described
situations, the OS booting, things installing and loading
would likely be most effected by memory and HDD, boot times
by motherboard bios and how cluttered the OS installation
is... though when a demanding app is finished loading and
running, CPU will make most difference.
