My 2007 Excel shuts down when opening .xlsm files?

I have small macros running in Excel saved in .xlsm workbook files. Whenever
I open such a file, 2007 Excel stops working and shuts down. The desired file
is available throught "recovery" process which helps, but the shutdown is
most annoying and should not happen.
