music files/video files

i installed nero 7 and it converted all my music/vid into nero files. so i
uninstalled the nero and all my files are now in a dat like format. how do i
convert all files back to windows media player files? i'm using XP and
window media player 10. thanks.

My computer -> Tools -> Folder options -> File types. Find the
appropriate registered file type and change the program in which they open.

In Media Player Tools -> Options -> File types see that file types
needed are checked.
