Music CD's

When I attempt to play a purchased CD. Windows Media Player displays the
following error."C00D1197: Cannot play the file" IF I try to view contents
from My Computer it shows the CD has 0 free space and ) used Space. If I open
through windows explorer. I See all of the CDA reacks, but they display
themselves as 1 KB files. I can play files stored on my hard drive, and I can
use Data CD's in Either CD-RW or DVD drive. The only problem I seem to have
is playing a factory purchased CD.

I don't understand how this error message relates to playing a CD to tell
you the truth, but here is information about C00D1197:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/9series/player/playererrors.aspx#c00d1197_0x00000000

In Windows Media Player Tools > Options, under the File Types tab, have
you got a check mark next to "CD Audio Track?" Also, make sure your CD
and DVD drives appear under the Devices tab.

I am not sure how it relates either. As this error indicates an inability to
connect to the network or internet, which I am not trying to do. My devices
do show up, and I have it set for Music CD playback. I am using Media player
10, but problem first manifested itself while running Media Player 9. I have
also tried with devices set to both digital and analog playback. Any help
anyone can provide would be appreciated

i have the same problem and tried the same. could you already find a solution?
I changed the audio to analog and it started working in media player 9, but
still none of my other audio players work any more.. so I got part of a fix
thanks to your hits above, but as for the making other audio wokr under XP,
open to ideas....
