what is required to read a multi-session dvd?

It was created by Nero express 6.6.0.4 bundled with the DVD.

The PC in question is running XP Pro Sp2 with all the latest critical
updates but no highmat driver.

A DVD drive capable of reading a multi-session DVD. Whether this is
supported or not is listed in the specifications for the drive model. If
you do not have a manual handy, you could try looking this information up
at the manufacturer's website.

If still having trouble getting a disc read, consider taking it to the
machine where it was burned. Most burning programs have an option to make
the disk readable on all computers. Try using the burning software that
created the disc and apply this option.

Thank you.
I will take a close look at the Nero express for making the disk readable
for all.

It's a hardware function. There's no way to build that into software. Most
current drives are multi-session capable. Quality of media can be a problem
too. Find a brand that works on your drives and stick with it.
