Is it possible to be a member of multiple workgroups at the same time without having to keep changing which workgroup I want to access and restarting? Currently the workgroup field only allows me to type in one name at any time

Thanks

Steve

Steve,

A computer can only be a member of one workgroup at a time.

Fortunately, workgroup membership has nothing to do with security. That just
determines what shares get displayed directly under My Computer / My Network
Places. If you look under Entire Network - Microsoft Windows Network, you will
see all computers in all workgroups anywhere visible to you (which comes as a
shock to new users of cable broadband internet).

First, the bad news, Steve: It's not possible to be a member of
multiple workgroups.

Now, the good It's never necessary to change a computer's
workgroup.

Windows networking supports multiple workgroups. A computer in any
workgroup can access a computer in any other workgroup.

To see all of the workgroups on a network:

1. Open My Network Places.

2. Click "View workgroup computers" to see computers in the same
workgroup.

3. Press the Backspace key to see all of the workgroups.

To access another computer, regardless of what workgroup either
computer is in, type the other computer's name in the Start | Run box
in this format:

\\computer
