Multiple Users of One Website

I’m in a situation where I took over a website that was managed and
maintained poorly and, with zero knowledge and a lot of trial, error, and
reading, constructed a website that has been adequate until now. It’s
growing. The club is growing. The more I learn, the more I know I don’t
know much at all. There are no classes in this program other than the
basics. I’ve asked for intermediate to advanced levels but there is no-one
available or with that knowledge.

I’m in a small town without a bookstore. The nearest one is about 25 miles
away and they do have the FrontPage2003/by Buyens in stock. I’ll get there
sometime before xmas. And I hope it has the answers to that about which I’m
so frustrated.

I need to have one or two other people learn this program so that I can
eventually relinquish control. Those two are 100 and 400 miles away. My
assumption is that the whole of this website can be downloaded onto their
computers, and that with Front page programming also installed, they can each
learn and play on the existing familiar pages without publishing them.
However, that requires a download that shows everything working, hyperlinks
included.

The website is currently done from my work place. I’m a clerical employee
and do not deal with website or programming at all other than this “littleâ€
website on my own time. It’s on the workplace server, and from there,
published to it’s internet address. To download the website at home, I did
as Chuck Davis suggested… I opened the website in internet explorer, chose
“fileâ€, chose “edit with front pageâ€. Looks fine so far. But only the
“import†action was available. “publish†was not.

If I ever leave this work situation, the website will need to be downloaded
to someone’s computer, so this process is something I must understand. Am I
on the right track to do as I’m thinking with the other trainees? Is there a
better way? I envision the two of them sharing the maintenance somehow, and
I hope that’s in the book too.

Any comments? (Other than read, read, read.)

Your question would be better addressed to a newsgroup that deals with
FrontPage. This newsgroup is for Microsoft Access a database applicaiton
that is a part of Microsoft Office Professional.

Don't sell yourself short. You've got it this far. Its a matter of education
for you to take it the rest of the way. Forums, searching the web, and
looking at other sites is also a viable way to learn to use Front Page.

The on-line help and Front Page forums are wonderful resources when you run
into problems.

The wonderful thing about a web site is that the people working on it are
geographically independent as long as they have internet access.
The website is currently done from my work place. I’m a clerical employee

What you need to do to bring the site onto your local PC is to go to
File...Open Site..., and type the full URL (http://www.yoursitename.com) into
the Site Name box at the bottom of the dialog box that comes up. Going
through IE you are only opening a single page at a time and editing it live.
Once your site opens in Front Page, you'll have the Publish option available
to you. From there you can publish it to your PC and work on a local
copy...by far the preferable method.
If I ever leave this work situation, the website will need to be downloaded

Thank you. I didn't realize I was on the wrong page so-to-speak, it was 6:30
a.m. after all and I did it on the fly. But your answer flyboy was helpful.
I'll try that, as well as post to frontpage helpline.

Glad to be of help. That's what these forums are all about. I know the
experts have saved me countless hours of time.

I look forward to seeing you in the Front Page group.

Hello I have read the information that was exchanged below and I have a
question. I want to create a web site for a friend and allow him to edit one
or two pages i.e (News Page, Weekly rambelings) on a routine basis. Can this
be accomplished with out him messing up all of the other pages on the site?
