I have many shell32.dll files on my computer, in directories such as
C:\WINDOWS\$NtUninstallKB893086$ and C:\WINDOWS\$hf_mig$\KB893086\SP2QFE.
I'm assuming these were put out there with SP's or upgrades.
Can they be removed with no harm, as long as I leave the one in
C:\WINDOWS\system32 ??
Thank you

Correct.

Why do you want to remove these copies - they aren't active anyway.
If you do not intend to uninstall any updates, you can safely delete
the $NtUninstallKBXXXXXX$ folders and you may want to use this tool:

However, leave the %windir%\$hf_mig$ folder alone.

Why are you worried about dupes for that file in particular?

Because I have about 10 of them - 80MB total, and would like to clean upi
unnecessary disk space.

But why just that one file? The point is you're missing the bigger picture.
In any event Detlev gave you the info on deleting the uninstall folders.

Doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me. Deleting just these duplicate
files renders the $NtUninstallKBXXXXXX$ folders useless. Therefore, you
may delete all these folders entirely, saving even more space. Anyway,
if 80MB of file space counts, you may want to acquire a bigger hard disk.
