Multiple replacement of clipart

We have a huge library of standard PPT slides.
From time-to-time we want to update certain clipart items that occur in
multiple slides.

Is there a way of linking the clipart to a source file so that by
substituting a new file (with the same name) the slides are magically
updated?

Hi,

Not that I am aware of.

Please tell us your PowerPoint version,

anything else relevant.

Since I wrote this I found another topic that was very close to what I
want to do

http://groups.google.com/group/micr...?q=replacing+pictures&rnum=4#ec06694504497744

Using both PPT 2000 SP-3 and PPT2003. I tried the method "Insert |
Object | From file" using the link option and noticed two things:

1) The file with the link is much heavier that the equivalent file
created using "insert | Picture | From file. This appears to be
because the inserted object is automatically considered to be a
photo-editor object.

2) This method doesn't work with WMF or EMF files which unfortunately
make up the bulk of our clipart

Any ideas???

Try linking to the picture instead:

Insert, Picture, From File
Select the picture you want to insert
Click the DownArrow gadget to the right of the button marked Insert and choose Link

This should do what you want, but with a caveat:

When you do this, PPT includes the full path to the original graphic in the link, meaning
that if you send me the file and include all the linked graphics, there's nearly no
chance that it'll work here. Not unless I can figure out what drives and directories you
had on the computer that created the file and recreate them here.

If you need to use linked images, I'd strongly suggest you then use FixLinks to repair
the links so they don't break. It's a commercial addin, but the free demo will repair
linked images for you. Costs you nothing. see http://www.pptools.com for more info.
