how do i set up powerpoint so that i can open two separate windows?

You can't. PowerPoint is a single instance program You can open multiple
presentations within PowerPoint and have those displayed side by side

Hi

You can open two (more) windows anytime just by going back to open without
closing the firat presentation .

I suspect you mean how to view easily, try WINDOW > ARRANGE ALL

If you mean show two slide shows at the same time - you cant unless you use
third party software (powershow)

It appears to work in MS Office XP but not MS Office 2003, I second the
"Shame on Microsoft" I think this same problem exists in Excel.

No. It is fixable in Excel. One can set up Excel to allow multiple
instances. It's just PowerPoint that has been broken. (I am sure PowerPoint
some years ago could have multiple instances. I do not understand why they
turned off this option.)

Is there some concrete reason why PowerPoint does not have a multiple
instance option?

Please give users the option to have multiple instances, since we have that
option for other similar programs.

It seems a common answer to this COMMON question is to just tell people -
"arrange all". Or "it's a single instance program".

Honestly, it does not make sense that the other programs are not restricted
to single instance (one can choose to make them multiple instnace if that is
their preferred state), but PowerPoint is strangely restrictive.

Here you're talking to other PPT users, not MS employees/developers. We can't
generally tell you why MS made the decisions it has or do more than listen with
a sympathetic ear to feature requests.

If you've arrived via the web interface, there's an option to flag a post as a
suggestion to Microsoft. That'd be worth doing.

Sorry, but it's the best we can do.
