Having recently recovered from a HD crash . . . . format
drive and re install; I have two copies of XP installed.
My fault should have read the screens as they come up but
I didn't :-)

So, I know which copy I don't want, but HOW DO I convince
the OS to delete one of them. I read a solution in a mag
one day, but can't remember . . . . so can you help?

Please . . . . . . . . . .

Hi,

Look in the root of your C: drive for a file called
BOOT.INI (it's a hidden system file). This file has the
list shown at startup - remove the entry you do not need.

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-
us;289022&Product=winxp

This will leave some files on you disk from the old O/S
install but it may be tricky to remove them.

You could log into each copy in turn , Open a DOS prompt
and type 'set'. This will list all environment variables,
the last one being Windir. This way you will know which
directory each copy of Windows is installed in. Delete the
directory you do not want (obviously when booted into
the "other" version of XP)

Regards,

Tim
