multiple highlighting

I have many jpg pictures that I am trying to delete. I hold down the control
key and start left clicking the pics that i want to delete. After a few have
been highlighted, they are automatically copied. Getting no-where. It takes
too long to do one at a time. Thanks for any help.

What's happening is you're moving the mouse off of the last file
highlighted before you release the left-click - which results in a copy
of everything you've highlighted - essentially you've highlighted a
number of files, and performed an inadvertent drag and drop into the
same folder. If the files are sequential, you can highlight the first
file, then shift-left click the last file, and it will select all the
files between the two.

After you have several files highlighted, you can use the Control key plus
left click to remove or add more files.
Highlight a file in the middle of the list, Shift + Home or Shift + End.
Control + A will highlight all files in a folder.
