Multiple Gateways!?

Hi there, i have a network with a server running Win2003 with 2 Network cards
with differents ip each one, the same subnet mask and the same default
gateway, they have the same ip for the main DNS server and Secundary DNS
server as well.

And the problem is, when a close the properties of one of them it's appear
the following message:

"Warning - Multiple default gateways are intended to provide redundancy to a
single network (such as an intranet or the internet). They will not function
properly when the gateways are on two separate, disjoint networks (such as
one on your intranet and one on the Internet). Do you want to save this
configuration?"

Maybe one of you people can helpme!!
Any advice it's very wellcome.

you should not setup the same IP range and two gateways on a multihomed computer.

As Robert L pointed out, you should not have 2 IP addresses in the same
subnet on the same computer. May I ask what the purpose of this setup is?
What the message is telling you is that multiple default gateways will cause
problems because one gateway may get you to some addresses and the other may
not be able to. Since the computer has no way of knowing which routes are
available to each default gateway, some routes may appear unavailable. You
should only have one default gateway defined on the computer, and add static
routes to networks that require a different route if you need to.

The thing is that both network card has differents ip but the same default
gateway and the purpose of it it's because in case that if one of those cards
fails the other may continue giving service to my clients. The first card
with it's ip it's configurated as preferred DNS server and the second one as
Alternate DNS on my clients as well as on my server and both cards has the
same ip as default gateway, so i don't understand why that message about
"multiple gateways"

I that situation, yor multiple gateways are the same one. So it shouldn't be
an issue. But two NICs on the same subnet will really screw things up
NetBIOS wise. Both MAC addresses will claim to be the same computer, which
is not allowed in a NetBIOS network. Most services don't rely on it any way
as long as you are using DNS, so I guess if it works and you don't mind the
error messages more power to you.

subnet so i can fix that. Thanks anyway man. See ya!!
