Multiple Display Drivers

William B. Lurie

I'm having a problem upgrading my system display
drivers which requires upgrading .NET Framework
from 1.1 to 2.0.. Even with ATI/AMD's help, I
can't seem to get it to delete the old drivers
and use generic VGA drivers along the way. In fact,
the Display>>Settings picture shows *two* of the
same drivers, and I can't get rid of even one.
Deleting ATI everywhere, Add/Remove Programs, out
of Program Files, and even Registry, doesn't do it;
on reboot, it always finds them again, I know not
from where. See this screen shot:

The picture you posted shows 2 monitors.......not 2 video drivers.
The Radeon Express 200 series is a mobo chipset that includes the onboard
video drivers....all in one package.
Nvidea uses the same type of installation but seperates the
install/uninstall procedure. As such you would need to uninstall the Xpress
200 chipset drivers in order to uninstall the video drivers.
Upon a reboot XP would detect the chipset and load generic drivers......you
would then need to reinstall the chipset drivers and hopefully have the
option to NOT install the video driver. After which you can install the newer
video drivers or maybe they are included in a newer chipset driver package.

That picture shows dual monitors.

Uninstall all .NET frameworks (Control Panel --> Add/Remove Programs) and
Reboot.

Install them and their corresponding patches in order:

NET Framework 1.1

For the articles below, follow the "IT professionals" link and find the
download for your OS.

- Download/Install http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928366/

Reboot as needed and at the end.

..NET Framework 2.0:

Reboot as needed and at the end.

..NET Framework 3.0

Reboot.

After that - download the latest driver from the actual manufacturer web
page for your video card(s). Install the driver (do not worry about
removing the old driver - if necessary - the latest driver should handle all
of that for you.) As you mentioned ATI in your original posting and your
picture shows the ATI RADEON EXPRESS 200 - I suggest you download the driver
for your PARTICULAR (be specific) video card here:

http://ati.amd.com/support/drivers/xp/integrated-xp.html

In essence - your video card is a PART of your motherboard - is it not?

Whew! That's a much taller order than the short list
that ATI sent me, and I hope I'm up to it. I will give
it considerable thought and study before proceeding,
and then I'll do it on a clone offline first. Thank
you for the complete details.
