Multiple devices installed in my computer

I was trying to find a device I wanted to remove - when I
went to Add/Remove and looked at installed devices - I saw
several listings for each device .. should these be
removed? do they hurt anything or slow up the machine ?
How do I know to remove the correct device from the list?

If you go to Device Manager what devices does it list more than once? If
there are multiple copies of devices listed I would expect one ot be
working and the others to not be working. You would remove the ones that
are not working.
