Multiple Desktop Glitch's need Help

I have the monitor turning on/off, changes in extreme large font that does
not allow and corrections, window (boxes?) that overlap fonts and other info
and or are missing info. I have attempted several things do I need to wipe
and do a re-install of all window xp components?

try turning off pc, unplug monitor, reboot plug it back
in. could be bad monitor or scumware on your pc or bad
driver. i suspect a conflict.
