multiple copies

I downloaded pics off my digital camera, then selected
some prints to play with in a photoshop program....I was
going back and forth to the "folder" for pics when I
realized that I had 55 copies of the folder (times 150 or
so pics) for a total of over 2200 pics in the folder!!!
I have no idea how the "copies" were generated - I need
to know what I did so now that I have deleted the "extra
copies" I WON'T DO IT AGAIN !!!

You were probably holding the Ctrl key down and clicking on file names with
your mouse to select them.
This is fine, except that you need to remove your finger from the mouse and
then move the pointer to the next file. If you don't, you are dragging the
selected file and this makes copies.
