Multiple copies of e-mails

Two issues:

When sending an e-mail with one .jpg file as an
attachment, recipients receive original e-mail and .jpg
file, followed by 10-to-15 copies with .jpg file changed
to .dat file.

When deleting an e-mail, multiple copies of same end up
in deleted items folder.

Any suggestions on how to resolve?

Thanks for any help...

This could be caused by lack of response from your outgoing mail server.
Outlook actually sends the message but doesn't get an acknowledgement from
the server, so it stays in the Outbox until it's time to try again, doing
the same thing each time. Try lengthening the server timeout value. Since
you didn't specify the version of Outlook, I can't tell you exactly where to
find it, but it will be on one of the property pages of your account.

The version is Outlook 2000, running on XP Pro. I
believe all messages are sent at the same time. I'll
check the timeout issue, but I'm not sure if that's where
the issue lies.

Also, I'm puzzled why a file named picture.jpg would come
through in the 2nd through 10th e-mail as picture.jpg.dat

The attachment was most likely winmail.dat, which is an indication that
Outlook was sending the extra messages as Rich Text.

The problem ended up being that it was set to break up
messages over 60K. Once I unchecked that option, the
problem went away.

Ah. So Outlook 2000 in Internet Mode Only, eh? Had you shared that
information at the get-go, the conversation might have been shorter. ;-)

Of course, you _did_ mention OL 2000 a couple of messages ago, and I didn't
catch it then, so mentioning it up-front might not have helped at all!
Let's chalk it up to old-man syndrome (on my part), shall we?
