As suggested, I've tried the "solutions" offered in Article 290956 (without
success) which leads me to believe that registry corruption is my problem.
As there has been no solution offered for repairing the corrupt registry
entries, the only option appears to be the uninstalling & re-installing of
Office. Will uninstalling Office2000 elimnate the "corrupt" registry entries
and will a fresh installation of Office2000 include "clean" registry entries
resulting in the "select number of copies" feature functioning?

No. Uninstalling/reinstalling will not usually fix registry corruption
issues. I would first try deleting Word's Data key (as well as the
suggestions vis-a-vis normal.dot), as described here:

http://www.officearticles.com/word/steps_to_troubleshooting_microsoft_word.htm

If the steps in that article don't work, then you might need a compleletly
"clean" registry with respect to Office; take a look here:

http://support.microsoft.com/Default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;290301&spid=2488&sid=251

But, most users find the troubleshooting steps fix their problem.
