Multiple client roll-out with sysprep & ghost

hi all,

i am trying to find a way to deploy PC's with their computer names all set
and added to our domain automatically. the OS's we use are Win2k and
WinXPPro. our copmuter naming convention is 'pcdtxxxx' for desktops or
pcltxxxx' for laptops. the 'x' represent an asset number and is stuck on
each PC.

we have a ghost server and we run PXE service to boot PC's from the network.
every PC's MAC address is in the PXE database. what i am hoping for is a way
to link the PC's MAC address to a computer name then somehow tell sysprep to
use that particular computer name depending on what the current PC (where
sysprep is running) MAC address is. is there a way to do this? or a simpler
solution that anyone knows of that will automatically name the computer
correctly according to ournaming conventions.

thanks

I'm in the exact same boat here. Without Sysprep, Ghost will maintain the
computer names of its clients when they are re-imaged, but once you toss PXE
& Sysprep into the mix, the solution goes to hell quite quickly.

Were you ever able to find a solution that worked?
