multiple available wireless networks

Multiple wireless networks are available in my area. How
do I ensure that my system connects, and stays connected,
only to my wireless network? My network is set up as a
Preferred Network.

My WinXP Home system keeps losing the connection to my
network.
 
1. change the channel to something the others aren't using. try channel 11,
or channel 1. try to find a channel that doesn't overlap
2. change the SSID to something personalized
3. use the strongest WEP (or WPA) that your equipment supports
4. UNmark to automatically connect to non preferred networks
