Multihomed 2000 server

Chris

I have a win2k server with 2 network adapters, one
internal network and the other external network, both
static IP's. When assign an IP to one of these adapters,
the other adapter changes to DHCP. If you then change the
other adapter back to a static address, it changes the
original adapter.
Tried removing networking services and adapters etc.

Any ideas?

I've seen NIC drivers cause this behavior. Make sure you have the latest drivers. If you do, try a NIC from another manufacturer.

One other thing. Try this:
Start Regedit and export the following registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Network
- Remove the "Config" binary value from the same registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Network

- Close Regedit
- Restart your server to test
- This should resolve the issue.

I have a total of 9 servers that are multihomed and doing
this EXACT same thing. I have been troubleshooting it for
two weeks now. I've tried different NICS, drivers the
works no resolution. The only thing in common is that it
is Windows 2000 with all the latest patches! Please email
me at (e-mail address removed) if you find resolution

My server does not have the latest patches. SP3.
I have just moved the array from a proliant 1800 to a
dl380 g3, updated the RAID controller driver to the 5i
and stuck it in the new server. All was fine apart from
this.

I think i have resolved it....
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Networ
k\
I backed up the registry and deleted everything under
that key. Uninstalled all network adapters and rebooted.
Windows picked up the adapters and pointed them to the
driver. All worked fine when i reassigned the ip's.
My problem was slightly different to yours, it was
happening immediately as soon as i changed ip. Give it a
try and see how it goes....

I deleted the key, rebooted, and am still getting the
same results. :(

I've tried 3COM Network Cards, Intel NICS, Linksys with
the same results every time.

I tried the above on 3 of the servers that are having
this issue with no luck
